Lake Compounds
For my seventh grade class trip, I went to Lake Compounds. This place is located at Connecticut. We left for the trip at 8:50.While I was on the bus going to the trip, I went to sleep. The trip was exciting. The movies we watched until we got to and from the park was Harry Potter and Batman. The bus ride was about 3 hrs long. I felt very tired and cold on the bus. I felt this way because the driver kept on putting on the a.c and I went on too many rides
Once I arrived to the trip, I went to the bathroom. I felt excited when I got to the park. The group I went with include me, Dieshell, Marijo, Octavia, Boranda, Thelma, and Quanashia. The teacher I went with was Ms. Horan. The first ride I went on was zoomerang which was the purple one. On the ride, every one in my group except for Ms. Horan and Octavia went on. Other rides I went on were, the thunder and lightning, wildcat, boulder dash, the boat and, the super fast marigold round. I disliked the prices that where on the food except the ice cream. On the thunder and lightning one, I was so scared that I screamed for my mom. My teacher didn't want to goon any roller coaster. I ordered the pizza and ice cream. I didn't like the pizza. When i ordered my ice cream, They made it extra small so Ms.Horan went back and made them change it.
The last ride I went on was the boulder dash which was the one in the woods. At lake Compounds it seen lots of beautiful trees. The bus ride home was tiring. I was not aware of the movie playing because I was sleeping. I would love to go back.

Angela's Ashes
Poverty affects the characters is the movie Angela's Ashes. The way it affects the is that they can't buy anything to support themselves. The little baby's in the movie keep getting sick because the lack of food, shelter, and medicine. If I were one of the parents, I would do anything for the kids to survive. Even if that means me going to jail. The wrong thing that the mother is the movie did was have so many kids while having no food or money to help her and her family to survive. The wrong thing the father did was having sex all the time and spending money on alcohol instead of food and medicine.
I think this family lives under this bad condition because of generations of poverty. I think looking for jobs and not having sex all the time can really help this family. I don't know anyone who lives in poverty like this. I don't really know if the poverty is worst here or Ireland.
Poverty is America is different than poverty in Ireland. This is because in America, people actually get help. The advice I give them is to stop having so much kids, stop drinking, and try to find a job.
QUESTIONS:
How does his house look? The house looks very bad and poor.
What kind of clothes does he wear? He has old, ripped, torn clothes.
How many siblings does he have? he has 1 sibling and 1 on the way. He had 4.
How old is the main character at the start of the movie? 5 years old.
How many siblings does he have? he has 1 sibling and 1 on the way. He had 4.
What happens when the father tries to get a job? He got turned down.
What awoke the kids in the middle of the night? Fleas woke them up in the middle of the night.
What happens to both of the twin boys? Both twin brothers purished.
What does the father do to Eugene's coffin that upsets the main character? The father was drinking on Eugene's coffin
Where does the family get their furniture from? They receive it from the salvation army
Are their beds new or used? They are used
Based on the movie, who do poor people turn to for help when they are going through rough times? They turn to the churches, streets, shelters, etc
What kind of problems do people who live in poverty have to deal with? List some that you saw in the movie.
- No food
- No place to stay
- No medicine or nutrition
- No clothes
The main character's father is an alcoholic, what type of conflict is this? Why? (Person Vs. Self, Person Vs. Person, or Person Vs. Society). This conflict is Person Vs. Self. This is because, he doing this to himself. He decide to spend his money on alcohol instead of supporting his family.

IMOVIE
It was very fun working on my IMovie with my group. This gave me a good experience. So if I want to do something in the future with movie making, it might be easy. The best part of working with my group was the fun we had. I'm glad I wasn't alone. That is very challenging because I would have had to do everything myself. The difficult part of making a imovie is that the voices kept going away. I honestly think that my group worked well with each other. Advice that I have for other kids who use imovie is that for them not to struggle. They just have to have fun.

Monster: IMovie
I really like using IMovie. The best part the having fun part. Yesterday in class, my classmates like my movie. They gave me positive feed back. I think I am going to make a few changes. I can't say what the changes are because that will ruin the surprise.
I feel that the other videos I've seen where good but nobody had fun with their project. I think that my group's video was the best because we actually had fun with it. I enjoyed The I.T.O's video the most because it seemed real. The advice I give to other schools who have never used IMovie is that for them not to stress them selves over it and have fun. I do think that if people look at my movie they will understand a little about Monster.
Monster: King
King: I need to paid. I ain't got nothing between my butt and the ground but a rag.
King : If I had a crew I could get paid
King: What you got youngblood
King: All you need is a crew with some heart and a nose from cash

Why do you have to think about a career now?
Chef: I would like to be a chef on various occasions. I like being in the kitchen and making new things. It is fun being
creative and doing things in your own way. It makes you realize that anything is possible.
Daycare: I would like to own a daycare. This is because like little kids. Especially babys. Even though I'm not that old my self,
I like being in charge.I know what some parents go through with their kids. So, I would like to take that hard work off their back.
Pediatrician: I would like to be a pediatrician. When I was younger, I had a pediatrician who helped me if I was sick.
Now, it is my turn to give back. It will be fun to give back.

Why do I have to think about a career right now?
As you know, we are thinking about careers right know. That is because career day is coming up. It is important to think about career day because it is going to help us decide a career we will like to do in the future. I think that this project is going to help me because it will make it easier for me to narrow down what career I would like to do in the future. The career I have dreamed of doing is becoming a chef. I have also wanted to own a daycare and become a pediatrition. Career day helps me realize giving up won't get me anywhere. This is why career day is important.

Racism/Monster
Today in class, we were discussing racism. I still feel that racism exists. The ways that it exist that when you are walking down the street sometimes, someone will just come up to you and say "I don't like you because you are....."Steve Harmon experiences some type of racism because people already started judging him because he is Black. Some people say they don't like Africans but I don't care because I am proud of it and nobody can change that. I am black, 3 different types of African, and some other things I can't count. The people that don't like Africans really don't know that their ancestors are African. Some say that Africans are dirty and stink but sometimes what they are really smelling is them selves. There is nothing wrong with being African and if people don't like me because of that, that's their business because they really don't know who they are!!
I think that there is racism in are country's court system. Most of the time, a minority can't get a fair trial. This is because once they walk in the court room, people think to them selves, She/He might be guilty because she/he is a black or Hispanic. I don't think that Steve will get a fair trial because they are already calling him a monster and they don't even have proof that he is guilty. I think that O'Brien feels that the jury is judging Steve unfair.
Many people think that our country's court system is unfair. I think that they feel this way because they feel that people discriminate against them. I think that their are more blacks in jail than college because they don't believe in themselves and nobody really encourages them. This is my opinion about racism.

Monster
In this world, people use very cruel and harsh words. It is very powerful. I think people call each other names because the want attention and want to just start problems. People don't really call me names. They just talk under their breath. I know that people feel sad when people call them names because even though they say words don't hurt, most of the time it hurts. I always see people getting bullied. I think people feel power less when the get bullied.
Petrocelli calls Steve a "Monster" because she thinks he murdered someone. I don't bully no one but when I argue with my siblings, I call them animals. Steve feels intimidated when called a monster. After he is called a monster, he decides to write a movie about his time in jail. I don't think that Steve feels like a monster because he says that he didn't murder the store owner. I think that he is just guilty by association.
I think that the jury see Steve as a monster because he is black, and on trial. If I was on jury, I wouldn't think that Steve is a monster. That is because I would have to actually find out if he killed that man. The book is titled monster because, basically, Steve's nick name is monster.

Proportion
Aim: how do we solve proportions by using cross products?
Today in class, we learned how to solve proportions using cross products. Cross multiply is a easier way to solve proportions because it make the work easier by organizing it for you. All you have to do is circle the numbers diagonally and multiply.
2 x
_ = __; 2x=36; x=18
3 12
There is many things wrong with this is that instead of cross multiplying, they went straight across. That is why this person received the answer of 18.
The way you find out if the ratio of 6:45 and 2:15 is first, you multiply 6 and 15. That becomes 90. Then, you multiply 2 and 45 which is 90. Both ratios are 90 so it is proportional.
For example, 12/15, x/20. First you have circle 12 and 20 and 15 and x. Then you multiply 12 and 20 and that be

Another figurative language game that I played was neither. Since the sixth grade. I felt that this game was rather confusing. In order to win I had to sink the aposing team's battle ships.
My Score was a you loose. My partner's score was you win. In order to play this game you have to go to this link [http://www.quia.com/ba/42131.html?AP_rand=934993279].
The figurative language game that I liked the least was the doggie game. I felt that this game was annoying.
In order to win this game I had to figure out which was which. My score was 80%. My partner's score was 85%. In order to win this game I had to figure out which was which. If you would like to play this game go to ("http://www.quia.com/quiz/104199.html?AP_rand=1688449332").

Math Journal
Problem:
T-mobile charges $34.99 a month for phone service. They also charge $0.48 per minute for long distance calls. If Joshua's bill was $64.75, how many minutes of long distance calls did she make?
Part A - Write an equation that can be used to solve the problem.
Equation: 0.48m+34.99=64.75
M=62
The way I received my answer was first, I made an equation which was 0.48m+34.99=64.75. To solve what m was, I had to work backwards so I had to subtract 34.99 from 34.99. That canceled it self out so i did it to the other side of the problem. The equation became 0.48m=29.76. Next, I was still had to work backwards and I divided 0.48 by 0.48. That canceled it self out so I did it to the other side. 0.48 divided by 29.76. That gave me 62. This told me that m=62. That Joshua used 62 minutes of long distance calling. This is how I received my answer of 62.

The Bronx Masquerade
In class right know, we reading a book called The Bronx Masquerade. This book is about different people expressing how their life is using poems. So far, we met about 10 to 12. In this book, I like how people express their life styles using poetry. What I don't like about the book is that one of the characters in the book, Tyrone, always has something to say after somebody else talks. I don't have anything in common with any of these characters.
I relate to Gloria Martinez the least. This is because she has a son in the tenth grade and I don't want a child any time soon. The character I dislike the most is Tyrone. This is because any time someone finish telling about their life, he has something to say.If I can make my own character for this book, it would be a councler. This is because everybody in this book has a issue in their life.

Similies and Metaphor
February 12, 2009
My bull is white like the silver fish in the river,
White like the shimmering crane bird on the riverbank,
White like fresh milk!
His roar is like thunder to the Turkish cannon on the steep shore.
My bull is dark like the rain cloud in a storm.
He is like summer and winter.
Half of him is dark like the storm cloud
Half of him is light like the sunshine.
His back shines like the morning star.
His brow is red like the back of a hornbill.
His forehead is like a flag, calling the people from a distance.
He resembles the rainbow.
I will water him at the river,
With my spear I shall drive my enemies.
Let them water their herds at the well;
The river belongs to me and my bull.
Drink, my bull, form the river; I am here to guard you with my spear.

Jim Crow
Today is class, we learned about the Jim Crow system. The Jim Crow law is when Colored people are segregated from Whites. I think that non-whites were affected terrebly by the Jim Crow system. I think that Malcolm x hated this law. That is why he fought against it.
Langston was an african american poet. When Langston was growing up life for blacks was tough. Today in class i read the poem marrigold round. I think that blacks have it easy now than 1930 because the Jim Crow system is over. Today, black can actually be right next to whites with no problem.
I think that the Jim crow system is a problem beacause block is mainly just cells in your body no need for segregation. Langston fought for freedom by writing poems. Shirly Chisholm fought by running for president. Malcolm X fought by violence. MLKJ fought by non-violence. If people didnt fight for freedom, whites will have had control over the black race or even have a genocide on the black race.
Jim Crow System [Merry-Go-Round (Colored Child at Carnival)]Poem
On this merry-go-round,February 9, 2009(2)How did Langston Hughes deal with Jim Crow?
AIM: (1)What was Jim Crow?
Where is the Jim Crow section
Mister, cuase I want to ride?
Down South where I come from
White and colored
Can't sit side by side.
Down South on the train
There's a Jim Crow car.
On the bus we're put in the back--
But there ain't no back
To a merry-go-round!
Where's the horse
For a kid that's black?
Questions
What do you think the poem is about?
How do you think it felt being a young kid growing up with segregation?
If you were to get on a Merry-go-round today, would you have the same experience as the kid in the poem? Why or why not?
Why do you think Langston Hughes wrote this poem?
Answers
- I think that the poem is about how whites and blacks were segregated.
- I think that it was hard and tough being a growing COLORED person.
- No. This is because segregation was over a few years ago.
- I think he wrote this poem to show how we couldn't be next to a white person at all before.

Literacy Class: Ms. Bentley
Today in class, we learn about Malcolm X. We were discussing on how Malcolm X life was. I feel that Malcolm X is a great man and many people such as him help people of different races to get freedom. Yes I would like to learn more about Malcolm X.
I feel that black history month is good. I would like to learn about many people who helped us with our freedom. Many people think of only Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks when they hear black history month but there are so many other people who helped us. If you try, everybody can make a difference. Black history month is when Blacks, Hispanics, Asian, etc... take time to honor the people who gave us freedom and it is a time to feel special.
There are some black authors that I know. One of them is Maya Angelou. I do like writing poems. It lets you express your feelings in a way you can understand this is why I like writing poems.

How do we use spreadsheets to create graphs?
February 2, 2009
Aim: How do we use spreadsheets to create graphs?
Today, in class 702, we used spreadsheets to create a graph. First, went to microsoft excel spreadsheet. Then, we made a data. The way we did it was by putting all the activaties in one row and the budgets in another. We did 2 different types of graphs which were a circle graph and a bar graph. We were trying to see which graph graph represented the data better.
The graph that best showed the data was a bar graph. This is because the bar graph displayed the data. The circle graph only showed how the set of data is divided into parts. A line graph would not be an appropriate display because it only shows how a set of weather, such at weather increases and decreases, changes. This is what class 702 did today.
